We have motorhomes for sale in Wakefield and Holmfirth. We offer campervans in Stockbridge and Ashton-under-Lyne. Check out our range of motorhomes in Glossop.

Ashton-under-Lyne is a market town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England.[1] The population was 45,198 at the 2011 census.[2] Historically in Lancashire, it is on the north bank of the River Tame, in the foothills of the Pennines, 6.2 miles (10.0 km) east of Manchester.

Evidence of Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Viking activity has been discovered in Ashton-under-Lyne. The "Ashton" part of the town's name probably dates from the Anglo-Saxon period, and derives from Old English meaning "settlement by ash trees".[3] The origin of the "under-Lyne" suffix is less clear;[4] it possibly derives from the British lemo meaning elm or from Ashton's proximity to the Pennines.[5] In the Middle Ages, Ashton-under-Lyne was a parish and township and Ashton Old Hall was held by the de Asshetons, lords of the manor. Granted a Royal Charter in 1414, the manor spanned a rural area consisting of marshland, moorland, and a number of villages and hamlets.

Until the introduction of the cotton trade in 1769, Ashton was considered "bare, wet, and almost worthless".[5] The factory system, and textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution triggered a process of unplanned urbanisation in the area, and by the mid-19th century Ashton had emerged as an important mill town at a convergence of newly constructed canals and railways. Ashton-under-Lyne's transport network allowed for an economic boom in cotton spinning, weaving, and coal mining, which led to the granting of municipal borough status in 1847.

In the mid-20th century, imports of cheaper foreign goods led to the decline of Ashton's heavy industries but the town has continued to thrive as a centre of commerce[6] and Ashton Market is one of the largest outdoor markets in the United Kingdom. Ashton Town Centre is now home to the 140,000-square-foot (13,000 m2), two-floored Ashton Arcades shopping centre (opened 1995), the outdoor shopping complex Ladysmith Shopping Centre, and a large IKEA store.

In 2018, a large new development opened in Ashton town centre including a new college campus for Tameside College, new council offices and a library. Improvements were also made to the open-air market, including new kiosks and stalls. In 2019, work began on a brand-new transport interchange for the town centre to make getting into the town much easier via bus and Metrolink. This opened in August 2020.

Holmfirth is a small town high in the Holm Valley of West Yorkshire. Situated where the Ribble and Holme rivers meet, the town is nestled in the Pennines about six miles south of Huddersfield.

Holmfirth has many terraced stone-built cottages which are typical of this area of West Yorkshire.

Narrow, steep alleyways, known locally as "ginnels", make short cuts between the former weaver's cottages.

The stone steps are well worn from centuries of workers making their way to the mills and factories which were the hub of the area's thriving textile industry.

The town has ample local shops including a Co-op supermarket, bookshops, tearooms and cafés. A farmer's market takes place every third Sunday in the month and sells organic and local produce. Holmfirth also has two art galleries of internationally acclaimed artists, Ashley Jackson and Trevor Stubley.

Holmfirth is served by the local Holme Valley Memorial Hospital, where you can find the local war memorial.

The town also has a Civic Hall which is used for local groups to meet such as the Holmfirth Choral Society.

The local cinema, the Picturedrome, hosts live music events and performances on occasion. The area is popular with walkers and hikers and the local bus service runs to local beauty spots such as Denby Dale and Glossop. The Peak District National Park boundary is just outside Holmfirth and Holme Moss is a well-known part of the moor.

The long-distance Pennine Way can be joined here before it crosses nearby Black Hill.

Visitors flock to the town to see "Nora Batty's House" and "Sid's Café" which is opposite the church.

Next door to Nora's famous steps is a tearoom which serves up teas and snacks from what was Compo's bedroom in the long-running TV series. In the summer the Holmfirth Festival and the Festival of Folk keep locals busy.

The Music Festival is held in October and every July there is a Duck Race on the local river.

Given the increasing prevalence of fraud in the private motorhome sales market, it's crucial to address this concern. We thoroughly verify that the payment is authentic and that the funds have cleared before processing your payment.

Our franchisee will only release the keys once the full funds have cleared in your account. This practice helps create a safe and trustworthy environment for all parties involved in the sale.

Just like an estate agent, our role is to put forward offers and negotiate on your behalf until you receive an offer you are happy to accept.

arrow_drop_down

You simply provide us with the agreed payment amount, and we will handle the transaction on your behalf, ensuring that the motorhome owner receives their payment promptly.

Is the financial transaction secure?

arrow_drop_down

Buying a motorhome through Motorhome Depot is the safest method for purchasing a privately-sold motorhome. Your payment is securely deposited into our holding account, from which we then disburse the funds to the owner, who is obligated to adhere to the terms of their contract. Alongside these financial and contractual protections, it's important to note that our strong relationships with our sellers significantly reduce the risk of fraud commonly associated with private motorhome sales. We have personally visited our clients' homes, spent quality time with them, thoroughly inspected the motorhomes, conducted comprehensive history checks, and fostered genuine connections. No fraudster would welcome such scrutiny, ensuring that motorhomes advertised through Motorhome Depot are authentic and trustworthy.

Do many people use Motorhome Depot to sell their motorhomes?

arrow_drop_down

Yes, Motorhome Depot sells thousands of motorhomes a year on behalf of their owners. When the alternatives are to try and sell privately yourself, or accept a trade price offer from a dealer, it isn't hard to see why our no sale, no fee service is so popular.

But dont take our word for it, take a look at our Trust Pilot reviews.
